Contraception & Family Planning
Confidential Support & Care
Decisions surrounding contraception and family planning are deeply personal and private in nature. Our doctors offer confidential, compassionate and expert guidance to help support your reproductive health whether you’re considering starting a family or need advice on contraception.

Free Contraception Scheme
The Free Contraception Scheme is available to women, girls and others (individuals identifying as transgender or non-binary) aged 17 to 35 (inclusive) who are ordinarily resident in Ireland and have a PPS number. Contraception methods will only be prescribed if deemed suitable by your GP. This free contraception scheme covers the cost of your GP consultation, prescribed contraceptive solutions and the fitting or removal of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) methods such as the coil or implant. You remain eligible up until your 36th birthday. Please speak with a member of our reception team or your doctor for more information about registering under this scheme.
Contraceptive Advice
No single contraceptive method is suitable for everyone. Your GP will take the time to ascertain your individual needs by looking at your medical history, lifestyle and your future fertility plans before recommending the best choice for you.
During your consultation, your GP can provide expert advice on the full range of contraceptive options open to you. These include:
- Combined oral contraceptive pill
- Mini-pill (progesterone-only pill)
- Contraceptive patch
- Vaginal ring
- Depo Provera (injection)
- Intrauterine devices (IUDs/Coils)
- Contraceptive implant (e.g. Implanon)
- Barrier methods (i.e.condoms or diaphragms)
- Emergency contraception (morning-after pill)
Fitting & Removal of LARC Devices
Our experienced doctors can insert and remove LARC (long-acting reversible contraception) devices. LARC device types include hormonal and copper coils as well as contraceptive implants. These contraceptive methods are a good choice for individuals who prefer longer term birth control (lasting several years) that is effective with minimal maintenance required. Full aftercare is available to ensure your comfort and safety post-insertion.
Pre-Conception and Fertility Planning
If you are planning to start or expand your family, we offer pre-conception consultations to help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy. These appointments include:
- Review of general health and lifestyle
- Advice on folic acid and nutritional supplements
- Medication safety in pregnancy
- STI screening (if appropriate)
- Guidance on fertility awareness and timing
For couples experiencing delays in conception, we can also initiate fertility assessments and discuss potential next steps or onward referral if required.
STI Screening and Sexual Health
As part of our holistic approach to sexual health, we offer discreet STI screening and treatment services for individuals and couples. Regular testing is an important part of maintaining your reproductive health, especially when using barrier methods or after changing partners.
Confidentiality & Support
All consultations are conducted in a professional and non-judgmental setting. We understand the sensitive nature of these discussions and aim to create a safe environment where you feel supported and listened to. Your privacy is our priority, and all discussions remain entirely confidential.
