Compassionate & Confidential Support

Discussing your mental health can be incredibly challenging but it’s important to remember you’re never alone. Our GPs take a compassionate, non-judgmental approach when determining the most appropriate ways they can help you.. During your consultation, your doctor will listen carefully to all of your concerns, work with you to explore possible causes and map out an appropriate recovery path for you. You can always be rest assured that discussions with your doctor remain completely confidential and are treated with the utmost sensitivity.

Our Mental Health Support Service

Our GPs provide support for patients experiencing a wide range of mental health issues. These include but are not limited to:

  • Low mood
  • Depression
  • Anxiety (including panic attacks)
  • Work related, study or relationship stress
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Postnatal depression
  • Dealing with bereavement
  • Emotional burnout

Symptoms can often overlap but it’s rare that people would experience mental health issues in the same way. Your doctor will carefully listen to and review your personal experience and give you clear practical support and advice on how best to manage your condition. Medication may be prescribed for anxiety or depression in cases where it is considered appropriate and beneficial for the patient. Your doctor will explain the benefits and/or risks of prescribed medications from the outset.

Holistic Approach

We take a holistic view of mental health. Lifestyle, diet, physical activity and social supports can each play a role and contribute to your overall feelings of wellbeing. During your consultation, your doctor may offer practical advice on:

  • Developing healthy sleep routines
  • Stress management techniques
  • Exercise routines
  • Alcohol or substance use reduction
  • The creation of a personal wellbeing plan

Counselling & Specialist Referrals

In many cases, counselling therapies can play a crucial role in your mental health recovery journey. When considered appropriate, your GP may refer you to a trusted psychologist, counsellor or psychiatric service provider offering specialist support for conditions such as:

  • Complex depression or anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • PTSD or trauma recovery
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Personality disorders

Your doctor can also provide you with details on how to access community-based mental health supports and services.

Medication may be prescribed for anxiety or depression in cases where it is considered appropriate and beneficial for the patient. Your doctor will explain the benefits and/or risks of prescribed medications from the outset.

Crisis Support & Immediate Needs

If you or someone you love is experiencing a moment of crisis or having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please don’t delay in seeking help. Our doctors can provide urgent support and direct access to appropriate emergency or crisis services.

Mental health issues are not something that should only be addressed in moments of crisis. If you have a history of depression, anxiety, or emotional distress early intervention can prevent small issues from becoming much larger challenges.
